Yukon has a rich cultural heritage, from the land run of the 1880s, to the railway companies and cattle ranchers settlements, and to the Czech settlers following World War I. From the iconic Yukon’s Best Flour Mill, to Mulvey Pond, a famous Chisholm Trail watering hole, Yukon makes it a priority to celebrate its culture and heritage. Our community hosts many festivals to celebrate our heritage, such as Rock the Route, the Chisholm Trail Festival at Mollie Spencer Farms, and the Oklahoma Czech Festival (held annually since 1966). A tangible reminder of the Czech presence is the historic Jan Zizka Lodge Number 67, popularly known as Czech Hall (listed in the National Register of Historic Places, NR 80003258), located two miles south of town.

Founded in the 1890s, the town was named in reference to a gold rush in Yukon Territory, Canada, at the time. Yukon was founded by A.N. Spencer in 1891 and was named for the Yukon River which flows from British Columbia, across the Yukon, and into Alaska. Spencer, a cattleman from Texas turned railroad builder, was working on a line from El Reno to Arkansas when he decided to build the town. He filed the plat on the townsite on February 14, 1891.
